As usual, it is 24 hours before I am set to get on the road to return to EL, and I have packed not a Goddamn thing, still have 3 loads of laundry to do, shopping, finishing 70 more door decs, which I have unfortunately decided to collaborate with my unmotivated friend BJ on, so I have to be there motivating him for him to exercise his drawing talents. There really should be no reason not to finish 70 of them in an hour, hour and a half, but that seems really unlikely given that we did 20 or so in an hour last night.

Last day of work today, and I really have nothing left to do, so I'm gonna do some chillin, thieving, cleaning, and have a damn big lunch.

See all you fools in a few days.

Love, and respect -

~ M

P.S. Why does summer have to be so easy? I like school, and being at school, but it is so much easier during summer. Everything is.

One year left.

4:47 pm - I think it's that time of the month
Officially, I haven't worked this hard cleaning my house in... well, ever. Maybe its that sense of impending doom (aka, graduating school in a year) that spurns me along with the realization this is probably the last time I'm going to spend any appreciable amount of time living here.

Well, that and the ants are beginning to drive me bonkers.

On the positive side, I/we have accomplished a lot. On the downside, you can't really tell. Is it really worth the effort to know something is clean, but nobody else could tell?

In other news, I think I've finally become the hick I was destined to become. I can't stop thinking about breaking down and buying some cowboy boots.

Love,
~ M

Oh, PS, happy b-day George (yesterday). What a pimp.

Hola Senioritas (and the dudes too... but we all know I'm all about the ladies).

I haven't updated in a grip, so what up to all the LJ lovas out there.

In about 5 hours I'll be leaving for Oakland unviersity for a Statewide Mentor conference... Much fun and hullabaloo will ensue, I'm sure.

I would update more but I'm crazy freakin' tired. Much love and tictacs and whatnot.

Goodnesses.

4:39 pm - Long time, mo freshness
This is what Ed, my boss (for mentoring) messaged me after finding that I had not completed my student learning map, a document that plans out what programs I am going to put on throughout the semester. Warning:

This is the hotness.

bzebwoy1 (2:16:46 AM): Have you seen me? My name is Student Learning Map. I belong on the Res Life Staff web and Michael Briggs is my best friend. I just need to find my way back to the web.

Isn't Ed just the cutest lil' thing?

I can't really believe that there is just over a week left, then I go back to school. This summer seems to have flown by. I worked less than I did last summer, and it still went faster... maybe it's just that I always had a "plan" for my free time, so there was no real downtime. Soccer on wednesdays and sundays, baseball on tuesdays and saturdays, b-ball every other night of the week, working out over lunch hours, bbqs if there was an open evening, blah blah... I'm excited for school, but I'd still like another month of summer or so.

In other, but largely unimportant news, I, Kanye, have finished the production work on the second song BJ and I have done... it's pretty hottt. I think I need to redo the choral and string melodies, but other than that we gots #2 out the door. Maybe we'll even get a CD done before I leave. That's doubtful, of course, because it sounds like dedication and work. And I don't do that. I am kind of obsessed with Fruityloops though... it just might happen.

Okay... now is when all of you give me cool ideas for activities/programs to run for my floor/hall as a mentor this year - anything and everything is welcome.. aka, anything you have done or thought, man that would be cool. Let it flow like a Kentucky Waterfall spills over a stained yellow wifebeater.

Okay... small disclaimer here - In no way do I claim that this little story will have any point or be cool at all.

In other news, I ordered all the parts for my new computer yesterday... much fun shall assuredly ensue when I build it (hopefully it all comes in by Friday). I only ended up dropping $650 for what should be a rather hot little mama, so I'm excited (and not too broke... although the tuition bill is due soon).

4:54 pm - Hmmm...
Whelp... I've survived another day at work. During the morning hours, I stopped by my house a couple of times. On the first visit, I made an apple crisp (the apples were already cut) and threw it in the oven. I set my cell phone on stopwatch for 45 minutes, and went to two jobsites, getting back just in time to pull it out. After lunch, I threw it in the fridge downstairs, and I plan on consuming it tonight. That is efficency if I dare say so...

The old dirty man Robert I work with just told me a joke. He asked "Have you ever been caught jerking off in a closet?"
Upon my response of "No," he said "It's a pretty good hiding place, isn't it?"

I wish I was witty like that.

8:34 am - Down for whatEVA.
So this weekend I'm playing soccer in the Sunflower State Games, and will be getting my shit handed to me by guys who played varsity soccer all through high school; most likely have foreign names like Pedro, Dominguez, and Birocelli; and probably a third of which have even played some college soccer. My team, however, is mostly a squad of random guys who are the better part of a group that gets together for pickup games twice a week with anybody who will play (young and old, good and bad). In short, this should be interesting, and I will be entertaining no notion that we might go on to second round action. And I am positive that I will be fucking dead - 3 games in a day, and I am WAY, WAY out of shape.

It's a damn good way to spend $28 bucks tho.

Minor positive note: some chicks might show up to watch the studs on the other teams, giving me something to watch from the bench of a team whose starters are getting their anuses pounded by a three piston ass-hammer with scrotum-cupping attachment.

Okay, I shall refrain from the ultra-graphic comments in the future.
To the best of my ability. Which is probably not at all.

3:34 pm - In refernce to yesterday's post...
So yeah. Today I recieved another e-mail, as follows.

There has been another "accident" causing the closing of Blaisdell Pool again today. Also, the route has changed for the Fiesta parade tomorrow. Please see the releases below for details.

Good times. They're going to have to pump so much chlorine in that thing it's rediculous. These parents need to quit feeding their kids crap. If it's a floater - hey, no problem, just grab and go! These liquid excretions... explosive diarrhea and whatnot - just nasty.

An excerpt from a press release I recieved over the City Intranet today:

The Parks and Recreation Department of Topeka has temporarily closed Blaisdell swimming pool in Gage Park. The pool was closed today following “contamination” by a pre-school youngster. Hyper-chlorinating the pool (the standard procedure recommended by the U.S. Center for Disease Control in such instances) will take approximately 16 hours. The pool is expected to be sanitized and open tomorrow.

This was sent to all the local TV networks and newspapers. I don't think I'd be going swimming tomorrow if I read that shit.

2:16 pm - 'Tis A Leprechaun!
So I was on my way out to a jobsite, and pulled up to a stoplight. At the bus stop right next to me, an old guy wearing an embroidered "Kansas" sweatshirt with sunflowers all over it and holding his two week pillcase was standing unsteadily. Since he was a mere 4 feet from my open passengerside window, I intentionally avoided direct eye contact dispite the fact that I was wearing sunglasses and he was already staring at me. From the corner of my eye, I see him (after watching me for a good 15 seconds) throw his arms over his head as if he was doing the 'Y' in YMCA. I made no motion indicating that I had noticed his actions, so he sidled closer, right next to my door, and did it again, proclaiming loudly "It'sa Pot O' Gold!" By then I couldn't rightly ignore him, so I turned and asked, "What did you say?" having truthfully not heard him well. He got a little smile on his face and said "Heh-heh, you don't need to be findin' the ends-a lil' rainbows... you got yous some pots o' gold right on yer truck! Eee-hehehe!" and pointed to the sidepanel of my door, on which is the City of Topeka emblem, a gold and green shield saying 'Golden City' on it. The started mumbling and walked back to the bus stop. As I drove away, watching him in the sideview mirror, he made a pot o'gold with his arms again right as the bus pulled up to the stop, about 5 cars behind me.

In short, that made my day.

11:06 am - See me shinin' in my best fresh clothes!
Soooo, the holiday was pretty good. Ate waaaay too much, didn't make any money, wasted a lot of time, and generally enjoyed myself thoroughly. I even went running for the first time this summer - it was under 2 miles... and i ran by my dads house and stopped to talk... so it was kind of like 2 short runs, instead of 1, but hey - it's a start.

After doing my family thing (annunal reunion type of get together) I went out and chilled w/ Matt, Andrew & Tim + others and drank about 7 beers. I came home (this is from Tecumseh, about 10 miles east of where I live) at 3, slightly intoxicated, but definitely good enough to drive, and saw that I had two beers left, so I figured i might as well finish them, and maybe pass out. Chug the first, eat a piece of the apple pie I made, and start drinking the second, and the (house) phone rings (at 3:10 am, mind you). It's my brother, on a Douglas County Sheriff's cell phone, calling to ask if I can come pick him up, just west of lawrence (25 miles east of my house), because he was pulled over and blew a .12 on the breathalizer.

So I headed out, probably just as, if not more, intoxicated than the brother that I was to pick up and drive home from the Sheriff.

That Sheriff was awesome though, because he wasn't going to give him a DUI, he only wanted to make sure my bro didn't drive home.

It was real shitty how he got pulled over, because when he tried to flip his brights off, he accidentally switched off the headlights (and of course the car he was trying to avoid blinding turned out to be a sheriff. It was, conversely, very lucky that the guy was real cool and didn't send his ass to jail, as he should have.

All in all, I think I got the shit end of the deal. Lost an hour of sleep and two gallons of gas to meet a sheriff while intoxicated. Good work Mike.

8:11 am - This is bad...
I've started the summer schedule of death... I now just kind of go to bed whenever, and my alarm is set to wake me up less than 20 minutes before I'm supposed to be at work. Not that I party every night or anything... I'm still not cool - in any way, shape, or form - but it kind of sucks to have to get no breakfast, speed your ass off to work, and still get there 2 minutes late - because you chose to.

But I am so weak-willed... what other option is there?

1:41 pm - Okay, so who wants to milk me?
Father's day is a pretty tight holiday. I plan on my kids fucking hooking it up when I'm a daddy. If they don't... somebody's gonna ge beat. I'm not tellin who, but somebody.

For this one, I spent 4 hours mowing my dads gi-normous lawn (that he lets grow to about 9 inches tall) - after that we chilled and watched a movie, then went to chili's for dinna. I would have rather barbequed, but my older brother had a soccer game, so we couldn't do that through the middle of the evening.

I think I'm addicted to my bicycle. I ride it everyday.

As long as I'm not supposed to umpire any baseball games tonight, I'm going to go to lawrence to see that documentary about the guy who was only going to eat McDonalds for 3 months... I've been looking forward to that for a while. Should be rather amusing.

2:32 pm - Kielbasa
So when it rains a lot, and you inspect construction... there isn't much to do at work. Here I sit, alone, in the office, already having manhandled a load of peanut butter and crackers. I don't feel like wasting gas today, so instead of driving around to pass the time, I'm just gonna sit here. It's a good plan.

In general, however, despite the boring rain days, work is going pretty well. I keep forgetting little things, which result in a stern look and a "don't fuck up again" speech from the asst. manager, which I honestly deserve. I've left the door to the lab open (which is supposed to remain locked), the key in the door to the lab, the main office door unlocked when I was the last to leave, and also a nuclear gauge on (instead of shutting it off). Every one of these was separate occasions within the last two weeks, and every time it was like "how much more can I keep doing." The last time I left the door open to the lab, and was thinking how I have to be careful and put the key away and shut the door and sign out the nuke, etc etc the entire time I was in there... still I managed to leave the door open. I don't even remember doing it. I need more sleep at night or something.

Anyways, after that boring tangent... party on Sat.. looking forward to that. Should be a good time. A keg shall be tapped.

Had a barbeque on wednesday. That was good.
Real good. Buttermilk chicken rocks the shaznat.

Point of random information. The hair on the front of my head grows sideways. It's kinda weird with short hair - very obvious. Not sure what to do about it... or even if I should care, but yeah. Strange.

current mood: lethargic
